Reflecting on a Rewarding Experience with Orb Community Arts

Working with Orb Community Arts in Knaresborough has been an incredibly fulfilling journey. I had the opportunity to deliver three face-to-face sessions with the participants, culminating in a recent evaluation session. In the final session, it was a beautiful experience to integrate Mindful Photography Exercises into the morning, allowing everyone to explore creativity and mindfulness from the comfort of their homes.

We did our usual ode to a houseplant which is slowly becoming our online workshop trademark (!) and we explored one of our favourite poems; Leisure by W.H Davies which begins; “what is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare?” — . We concluded the course with a meditation session that provided a peaceful closure to our time together.

We are running another of our online workshops – which lasts one full week and you can see it here. Starts 11 January – 18 January 2025.

Feedback from Participants
Receiving feedback from participants was heartwarming. One person described the course as “the light in the dark,” which truly highlights the impact Therapeutic Photography can have.
Creating a Safe Space
Throughout the course, we worked to create a safe space for everyone involved. This environment allowed participants to express themselves freely, without pressure. In a world where many of us feel like we don’t fit in, it was rewarding to see participants embrace their true selves and embark on a journey of self-discovery.

Reflections on the Journey
The feedback we received speaks volumes about the importance of providing opportunities for therapeutic photography. Participants were given the time and space to reflect on their personal journeys, which proved to be an invaluable aspect of the course. It was a privilege to witness their growth and to be a part of their experience.
The sessions with Orb Community Arts were not only about exploring a mindfulness experience but also about self acceptance. It was more than just a course—it was a journey towards self-awareness and empowerment.
