What is therapeutic photography?
Mindful Photography forms part of a wider process called Therapeutic Photography where you can explore more about yourself in a safe and structured way. Therapeutic sessions are a way to increase self-knowledge, self-esteem, self-efficacy and resilience in an effective and accessible way.

We are so pleased to welcome Dr Neil Gibson to our community interest company. Dr Gibson; author of โTherapeutic Photographyโ, is an academic and practitioner, specialising in social work and therapeutic practice, from Scotland, UK. He has been involved in research into the therapeutic use of photography since 2014 and has run a number of groups for clients and practitioners on therapeutic photography techniques. He currently works alongside the Scottish Government, specialising in social work policy and practice, and is developing knowledge on the use of photography in pluralistic therapy.
Delivering Therapeutic Photography in your organisation or charity
We are currently delivering therapeutic photography sessions for free in North Yorkshire – if you cannot see a workshop for you at this time please send me an email.
We work in collaboration with Charities, Mental Health Organisations, Probation Services, Armed Service Personnel and other professionals to create a bespoke programme to meet the needs of your groups or individuals. Workshops can sometimes be a very personal and emotional experience and by working together with counsellors and psychotherapists, we can ensure you feel fully supported at all times.
Therapeutic Photography is a structured and guided process
โThe meaning of the photos changed for me as the project progressed; I reflected on the reason Iโd uploaded them and sometimes saw other meanings in them. I managed to process quite a lot and became motivated in other areas of my life, areas where I was struggling… I actually started to get stuff done !โ Participant, January 2021.
You can see our therapeutic photography work in the community on our blog page

The group always decides how they will display their work which ranges from private journals to public exhibitions.
