You don’t need a camera to see the world differently!

What’s something most people don’t understand?

Many people switch off the moment they hear the word photography, and perhaps, that reaction is completely understandable.

“I don’t have a camera. I’m not creative. Photography isn’t for me.”

These are some of the most common things we hear — and they are also some of the most important things we gently challenge.

Mindful Photography has very little to do with cameras, composition, or creative talent. It has everything to do with slowing down, looking, and truly noticing the world around you.

Mindful Photography as with all mindful practice, is an invitation. An invitation to pause in a world that rarely encourages us to do so. To turn towards the ordinary — a shaft of light across your wall at night, the texture of a cushion, the stillness of a pond — and find something worth paying attention to.

That act of looking, of really looking, transforms our clients. It builds what we call visual literacy; having the ability to see beyond the surface of things, to be able to articulate and describe something in images. In doing so, it nurtures something far more magical — a growing awareness of self, and a quiet confidence that has nothing to do with artistic skill.

Within our work, at Mindful Photography UK our method sits alongside a keyworker model rooted in genuine partnership. Clients are gently coached as they identify their own goals and aspirations, and creativity becomes a tool for confidence.

The camera — whether a smartphone or a borrowed camera from us — simply becomes the means by which someone begins to see themselves and their world a little differently.

We encourage creativity through confidence, not by comparison.

If you have ever told yourself that you are not creative, perhaps the most powerful thing you can do is simply stop — and look.
You might be surprised by what you find.
