Is it normal to feel lonely?
Yes, mental health and social isolation during Christmas in the UK are significant concerns affecting millions. This is why at Mindful Photography UK we decided to relaunch the Five Days in Between; a Mindful Photography project to build connection over Christmas and New Year.

Many feel disconnected, due to being alone, change of routine, loss of loved ones, and feel pressured to put on a happy front despite underlying distress. I personally face challenges such as a disrupted routine, I welcome the rest and more relaxed atmosphere but meal times and daily walks are irregular and I certainly feel……favourite word; discombobulated.

There is limited access to regular mental health services (due to holiday closures), and increased financial and social stress. These can intensify existing mental health conditions and perpetuate anxious feelings around Christmas.

Practical advice to support mental well-being over Christmas in the UK includes seeking social connection where possible, managing expectations, using self-care strategies, engaging in enjoyable activities, and accessing mental health resources early if feeling overwhelmed. Perhaps easier said than done?
How you about putting something in place NOW?

We are running the Five Days in Between in our closed facebook group. Every day between 27th November and 31st December we will post Mindful Photography Prompts and you are welcome to post your responses into our supportive community.

Christmas in the UK can be a particularly difficult period for mental health due to social isolation, loneliness, and increased stress, affecting a substantial portion of the population.
Let us stick together through the Five Days in Between and build a strong community of wellness.
