Can photography help with mental health?

Reflection on a project facilitated by Mindful Photography UK.

Vanessa slows down and takes notice, enjoying the Five Days in Between 2025.

We said weโ€™d work with 100 people in Yorkshire and went over and above!

The five days in between  – was a project linking people at Christmas facilitated by Mindful Photography UK.

๐ŸŽ‰ 88.3% said the project was EXCELLENT.

๐ŸŽ‰ 11.7% said the project was VERY GOOD.

This was a re-run of our very first community project from 2020, in which the original 30 people in our online community participated. You can find us here https://www.facebook.com/groups/682148979380076/

This project was open to EVERYONE across Yorkshire.

The first 100 people to sign up for free received mindful photography prompts delivered to their doors! ๐Ÿ“ฌ

Each day 100 people across Yorkshire and 500 + people in our online community viewed their Mindful Photography prompt and posted their response in our Facebook group.

๐Ÿ“ธ People stayed connected during what can often be a challenging time for many. Scroll down to see some quotes.

Our participants said the project supported their mental health, they felt more present and connected and 16% said they felt it benefited them physically as well.

We have been overwhelmed by the level of participation, feedback, financial donations and reviews.

Hereโ€™s what they said:

๐Ÿ‘ฅ โ€œI found the whole experience calming and beautiful.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ โ€œI regularly go for local walks but having a specific theme and purpose greatly improved my enjoyment of my walksโ€

๐Ÿ‘ฅ โ€œIt was also lovely to see all the contributions from othersโ€

๐Ÿ‘ฅ โ€œI thought the cards/prompts were very thoughtful, colourful and a pleasure to receiveโ€

๐Ÿ‘ฅ โ€œIt encouraged me to go out to take photographs to suit the challenge. Also to think around different ideas. I used tips learned at sessions.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ โ€œI looked forward to seeing other peoplesโ€™ photographs, it made me feel part of a teamโ€.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ โ€œIt created a focus when life can feel a bit lost during that periodโ€.

Thank you Andrew Duffin from Forensic Response who personally sponsored aspects of this project.
