What are the benefits of community participation?

We recently finished a project called the Five Days in Between where 100 people across Yorkshire and 500 + people in our online community received daily mindful photography prompts. The project brought together a community of enthusiasts who could see the benefits of daily walks, fresh air, visual literacy and mindfulness, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive!

Here are some of the highlights shared by our wonderful participants:

“Even though I was busy with family and friends on those days, I made time to follow the tasks and found the whole experience calming and beautiful.”

Many expressed how the project added structure to their days during a challenging time. One participant shared, “It created a focus when life can feel a bit lost during that period.” This sentiment was echoed by others who found joy in the themed walks, with one saying, “Having a specific theme and purpose greatly improved my enjoyment of my walks.”

The connections made through the project were also a highlight, with participants feeling part of a team. One individual noted, “I looked forward to seeing other peoplesโ€™ photographs; it made me feel part of a team.”

The project not only inspired creativity but also encouraged personal reflection. “It has given me some great ideas,” one participant mentioned, while another said, “This has been an enjoyable challenge.”

The thoughtful design of the cards received high praise as well. “The cards/prompts were very thoughtful, colourful and a pleasure to receive,” and “Thank you for taking the time to create such beautiful, thoughtful cards,” were just a couple of the compliments shared.

Participants appreciated the opportunity to engage with nature and document their experiences, with one saying, “Thank you, it was lovely to have something specific, nature-focused and interesting to notice in these hard, weird in-between times.”

As a final note, a heartfelt thank you goes out to all our volunteers and supporters and funder Andrew from Forensic Response UK, for their hard work and dedication. One participant beautifully expressed this by stating, “Thank you so much to everyone involved in this project. It was excellent.”

In conclusion, the overall response to the project has been heartfelt and uplifting. We are grateful for everyone who participated and shared their experiences, and we look forward to the possibility of future projects that inspire connection, creativity, and mindfulness.
