Over the last four weeks I have had the pleasure of working alongside participants at Orb Community Arts in Knaresborough, exploring the Five Ways to Wellbeing: Connect, Be Present, Be Active, Keep Learning and Give. Orb is a creative health charity supporting wellbeing, skills development and community connection through creativity.
These ideas can sometimes feel a little overwhelming, so together we broke them down into small, accessible activities. Through stories, poetry, photography, gentle walks and reflective discussions, we explored what wellbeing looks and feels like in everyday life.
The feedback has been wonderful:
“It has given me a moment to slow down and enjoy the sunshine.”
“I have learnt it is OK to stop.”
“I like taking photos of trees, looking for the symmetry and looking at the differences.”
“I have loved having time for me.”
“It is relaxing and has given me time to focus.”
“I have learnt that I can surround myself by people who have my back.”
For me, these comments capture exactly why mindful photography matters. It isn’t about taking the perfect photograph. It’s about creating opportunities to slow down, take notice and nurture awareness of ourselves, others and the world around us.
The good news is that this isn’t quite goodbye. We are delighted to be returning to support Orb again in the future, and I am already looking forward to seeing familiar faces and welcoming new ones.
In the meantime, if this approach appeals to you, why not join our online community? It is open to people from anywhere in the world and offers a gentle space to connect, share images and explore mindful photography together.
